PNI History
Porta-Nails, Inc. (PNI) was established in December, 1979. It was the result of purchasing a product line from Rockwell International. The product line was the Porta-Nailer. Rockwell was a well established and respected corporation which was changing its emphasis into higher technologies. The Porta-Nailer was a small product line for Rockwell but it was well established and recognized in the marketplace. All machinery and equipment was relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina into facilities, some of which are still used by the Company.

A second product line, The Wood Hog self feeding wood-boring bits was purchased from Rockwell in 1981 and also moved to Wilmington, North Carolina.

The Company was purchased by its present owners in March 1983. Growth has occurred through the acquisition of three other product lines or companies.

1984 Purchased all rights to the Router Mate from a group in California.

1985 Purchased Ring Master, Inc., a small manufacturing company located in Orlando, Florida. Products included the Ring Master, Dowel Mate and the Bulls Eye.

1986 Purchased all assets of the Wing Sales & Distributing Company in Payson, Arizona. This company manufactured what is now known as the Router Panel Template.

In all cases, machinery, tooling and inventory were moved to Wilmington, North Carolina.

The Company has continued to expand its product and market base by developing additional products, having products private labeled to us, and by private labeling products to companies such as Bosch Power Tools and Porter Cable.

On November 28, 1994, a major fire destroyed approximately one half of the 1107 King Street Plant including the offices, machine shop area and several assembly areas. A new plant, machinery and equipment were purchased and operations reestablished on Highway 421 approximately 10.5 miles north of Wilmington.

PNI employees did a magnificent job of helping the Company through a very difficult time. By the end of May, 1995, we had returned to full operation and had essentially shipped all back log associated with the down time. It is believed that no significant loss of customers was experienced.
